Is Kratom Safe

Is Kratom safe? Well, that is a complicated question bit in general – yes Kratom can be considered herbal treatment when used properly and under the right precautions. However, the use of kratom is not without controversy, as it has been linked to addiction and withdrawal symptoms in some users. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned consumers about the dangers of using kratom.

Why is Kratom Safe

Kratom contains several alkaloids, with mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine being the most abundant and most studied. These alkaloids interact with opioid receptors in the brain. Mitragynine is a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor, which is the primary target of strong opioids. This means that it binds to the receptor and activates it, but not as strongly as a full agonist like morphine. 7-hydroxymitragynine is a more potent alkaloid that also binds to the mu-opioid receptor, but it is a full agonist. This means it activates the receptor more strongly than mitragynine.
These interactions with opioid receptors are thought to be responsible for the analgesic (pain-relieving) effects of kratom. However, the alkaloids in kratom also interact with other receptors, including adrenergic, serotonin, and dopamine receptors. This complex pharmacology may contribute to the diverse effects of kratom, including its potential use for opioid withdrawal symptoms and as a mood enhancer. From a purely biological point of view, it seems that natural abilities of the plant work in a safe manner in harmony with our bodies natural opioid receptor system
